Getting Started with Learning
There is a lot of material here that can enrich your life. So where do you start? I recommend that you start by viewing the 12 Skills video series, containing approximately 2 hours of video content. There are 12 short videos in the series, one for each skill, and you can go through them all by just spending 10 or 15 minutes per day viewing or reviewing one of the skills per day (or faster, if you prefer). It’s best to view them in order because most of the videos build on content from previous skills. Having said that, I should also note that skills 1, 8, 10, 11. and 12 are somewhat standalone. I say, “somewhat” because after you have gone through the entire series, you may start to see how each and every skill is related to the others. This is the plan I would suggest:
Step 1 Get the Big Picture
Watch the entire series before trying to do anything with what you are learning. Don’t take notes, and don’t worry about what you will or will not remember. Each skill has a related tool (usually a worksheet) that is introduced in the video. Don’t worry about trying to use the worksheets at first. The goal is to get oriented and get the big picture.
Step 2 Start Practicing One Skill Per Week
Think of a 7-day cycle for each skill:
Day 1: Watch the video again for the skill you are learning for that week.
Days 2-7: Use the tool (usually a worksheet) for that skill for 15-20 minutes per day. If necessary, review the video to clear up confusion about how the tool works. If you have the time, continue stream journaling (see skill 1) throughout the entire process.
